More Words of Wisdom from the Boffin

Being that it is the Boffin’s birthday, and he came up with this gem this morning, it would be remiss of me not to share.

The Boffin and I were discussing charity runs and walks and people asking for sponsorship.  There is no problem with asking and accepting the no gracefully.  After all, people have all sorts of reasons not to sponsor people.  They have their own charities that they support.  They may be short on funds.  They may not like the particular charity the person is supporting.  It does not mean the potential sponsor is a tightwad and wants people with ingrown toenails to forever suffer.

However, that does not stop some people from doing the hard sell and trying to pressure you sponsor them.  So the Boffin came up with the perfect response in these situations when rudeness rears its head.

“Well, I’m going on a beer run.  Would you like to sponsor me?”

Great Britain can keep the Crown Jewels.  A man who can make me laugh like this every day is the best treasure I can ask for.

Happy Birthday, Boffin!  Thank you for brightening my life.  I love you.

  1. I always take out my wallet, show them that I have six dollars, and say “I need five of this for lunch, do you want the rest?” If they take the dollar, it’s fine with me, but they usually say never mind.

  2. Happy Birthday Uncle Boffin from the tribe and us!

I will use this line the next time we get one of these people at the door. Remind me to tell you about how I scared off some JWs at our old house.

It's OK. You can say something.
